This part of the temple is clearly set apart from the rest, there is a map on the wall and clearly distinct parts of the exhibits here.

Obsidian Cross says: Cultures aren't actually divided into neat little boxes with their own IP law protections, they mix and match with each other when people cross pathes. Not even conquest can stop it.

Maya Counterpart

The general consensus is that Tezcatlipoca's counterpart amongst the Maya is K'awill, who shares mirror iconography and the element of a serpent foot. Both are depicted in similar scenes where they are attacked by Venus, and in the Yucatán Peninsula where there was an overlap in the reach of their worship, it appears only one was present at a time, which can potentially be explained by them being equated. Both have associations with kingship as well as celestial bodies and their retrograde movements, but what we know of K'awill's is more focused on Jupiter, an association Tezcatlipoca does have but not as strongly.

Post Conquest Syncretism

Tezcatlipoca's aspect as a young man, Telpochtli, was syncretized with saints such as John the Evangelist and even Jesus himself after the conquest, leading to some difficulty telling them apart in sources from shortly after the conquest. One of our biggest pieces of evidence for this syncretism is the friars commenting on this and getting mad that they only mostly destroyed Aztec culture rather than completely overwriting it with their own.

In the part of the Florentine Codex intended for a Spanish audience, Sahagún compares Tezcatlipoca to both Jupiter and Lucifer. But as a Spainard only chronicling Aztec culture for the purpose of better erasing it his opinions are of little interest to this website, this factoid is just being noted for thoroughness.

Notably, some of Tezcatlipoca's titles were also appropriated and applied to the Christian god as part of conversion efforts.
